Williams started working for WVIS in the United States of the Virgin Islands in 1986. However, she did not like the job because her colleagues did not know so much about radio as she anticipated. Later, Emmis Broadcasting acquired WRKS in December 1994, and moved Williams to the other New York domain, WQHT formatted hip-hop (“Hot 97”).
