“The Hunt” is a film directed by Craig Zobel and written by Nick Cuse and Damon Lindelof. The movie was released in 2020. Moreover, Betty Gilpin, Ike Barinholtz, Amy Madigan, Emma Roberts, Ethan Suplee, and Hilary Swank star in the film. 

When was the project announced?

The project was first revealed in March of 2018. After that, the cast was announced a year later. Certainly, New Orleans was the site for filming. The film was expected to be released on September 27, 2019. However, after the mass shootings in Dayton and El Paso in early August 2019, Universal Pictures agreed to postpone it. 

After facing backlash for its alleged bias from US President Donald Trump and right-wing media, the studio revealed the delay. 

Who were the producers?

Along with Lindelof, Jason Blum was a producer under his Blumhouse Productions banner. The film is intended as a commentary on the deep political division between the American left and right, according to both Zobel and Lindelof.

When was the movie released and how was the response?

Universal Pictures released “The Hunt” in theaters in the United States on March 13, 2020. Subsequently, the movie was met with mixed reviews from the critics. However, the COVID-19 pandemic caused most theaters to close within a week of the film’s release. This resulted in the film underperforming at the box office, grossing just $16 million. The Hunt was released digitally on March 20 by Universal.

On May 1, 2020, the film was released in three Santikos Entertainment theaters in San Antonio, Texas, following the chain’s reopening.
