Former Kenosha shooter Kyle Rittenhouse says he plans on destroying the AR-15 rifle he used to shoot two men to death during a riot last year.
This is the rifle I own,’ the teen says on Tuesday during an appearance on the conservative podcast The Charlie Kirk Show after host Charlie Kirk showed a photo of Kenosha prosecutor Thomas Binger holding the now infamous firearm in court last month during Rittenhouse’s murder trial.
Rittenhouse told Kirk and right-wing journalist Jack Posobiec that the rifle was ‘being destroyed right now.’
He added: ‘We don’t want anything to do with that.
Following the shooting in August 2020, Rittenhouse was acquitted of five felony charges, including first-degree intentional homicide, and claimed that he was defending himself.
On Tuesday, he and Kirk talked about how Binger held the AR-15 Rittenhouse used to kill Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and to injure Gaige Grosskreutz during the violence in 2020.
What Happened in the Court?
In court, Beger places his finger on the trigger of a firearm, something that we all consider extremely risky and unprofessional unless one intends to shoot.
In an hour-long interview, Rittenhouse detailed his grievances against Binger, starting with how the Wisconsin jurist handled the high-profile weapon during the trial.
On-air, Rittenhouse criticized the Kenosha assistant district attorney for placing his finger on the trigger in a manner he considered unsafe during a courtroom demonstration.
As he pointed the gun at the gallery, Rittenhouse said, he glanced at his attorney, Corey Chirafisi, who was one of the lawyers on his defense team.
The teen recalled telling him, “Corey, you need to know Gun Safety 101.”. Loaded or unloaded, treat a gun as if it were loaded.
After showing Rittenhouse a photo of Binger brandishing the AR-15, Kirk questioned Rittenhouse more about the courtroom incident.
During the discussion, Kirk said, ‘So Kyle, you’re sitting there. It’s your closing argument, right?’
Yes, Rittenhouse says.
‘Let’s have attorney Binger pick up an AR-15 and see what happens.’ Kirk says while analyzing the photo of the prosecutor pointing the weapon – before suddenly blurting out: ‘You have a better trigger grip than him!’
‘What does he aim at?’ Posobiec then rhetorically inquires of Rittenhouse and Kirk, astounded by Binger’s brazen waving of the weapon.
After that, Kirk asks, ‘Is he threatening the jury?’
‘I guess so,’ Rittenhouse says. ‘He pointed the gun at the gallery, and I glanced at my attorney.’
‘Is this your gun?’ he asks.
Rittenhouse reveals to the audience that it is his rifle, which they are destroying right now.
We don’t want any part of that.
Binger’s Act in the Wiscon Court
Furthermore, Rittenhouse explained he had been on the witness stand when Binger mentioned his ‘post-arrest silence’.
My first reaction was ‘what the f***,’ this is basic, middle school Constitution test stuff. It’s not your place to comment on a defendant’s silence after an arrest, he said.
The man was crazy, Kirk said.
Rittenhouse’s experience was like standing up to a bully in a hallway, said Kirk. It resonates with so many people.
The host played a clip of Binger in court saying. “You lose your right to self-defense if you are the only one with the weapon when you are the one who brings the danger.”
Then Kirk asks, ‘Does the law say that?”’
Rittenhouse replies, “No.”. ‘Just a normal teenager,’ he says. From his perspective. He is saying that no one has the right to defend themselves in the world – or in the United States. Essentially, he is saying that they allow no one to carry a gun. I take that as his message.
Jack agrees that Binger ‘conflated’ the situation.
In defense of the judge, however, he claims he was neutral, not just a constitutionalist.
Rittenhouse explained during the interview that he knew the ‘state had no case’ against him. He refers to the testimony of Dominic Black, who purchased the AR-15 Rittenhouse used in Kenosha with the teen’s money.
Additionally, the teen discusses the risks of taking the stand instead of pleading with the Fifth. But he says he wants the world to know who Kyle Rittenhouse really was.
Rittenhouse Was Freaking Out!
Despite his remarkably calm composure in court, he told Kirk he was ‘freaking out’ in the run-up to the trial. However, the tide turned in his favor when Black entered the room.
Afterward, he explains that he was aware that there wasn’t a case against him because the prosecution was counting on Black to ‘lie.’
‘The two moments when I realize that the state didn’t have a case were when they did their opening statements and Dominic Black take the stand,’ the teen said. However, he did not mention the second reason.
I think they called Dominic to the stand hoping he would lie. But Dominic swore under oath and spoke the truth.
Some people want to push their agendas and don’t want to look at the facts. and they don’t want to get to know me as a person, Rittenhouse said during the conservative talk show.
‘I took the stand because I wanted the world to know who Kyle Rittenhouse really was.’
Kirk calls Rittenhouse a ‘normal kid who got caught up in something he didn’t intend to.’
He was pretty critical of his former attorneys, John Pierce and Lin Wood, whom he claims left him in jail for 87 days in order to use the bail funds for themselves.
