Family members of Sativa Transue, a 26-year-old American woman, found dead in a hotel room in Cancun with her boyfriend, said she appeared “beaten to a bloody pulp” when Mexican authorities discovered her body on Saturday.
Jayme Bolieu, Sativa’s mother, said that she received a call from the Mexican consulate informing her of her daughter’s passing. “How is this possible? She was so healthy and beautiful,” she asked. Overseas? I couldn’t believe it. I felt like I was dying. My daughter was my everything. She was born when I was 16. She grew up with me. To me, she was the reason for living and my best friend.”
Despite what happened on Friday night and Saturday morning, Sativa’s mother and sister are still trying to make sense of what happened. Mykayla, her 21-year-old sister, reports that Sativa was texting her throughout the trip: “she was enjoying the sunshine, and the trip was going okay, but not the best because she and her boyfriend were arguing.” Her daughter’s friends text Jayme about Sativa the night before and express their worry about her.
According to Jayme, Sativa’s boyfriend threatened to jump off a four-story balcony on Friday. “Sativa needed stitches.”
Sativa Transue, a U.S. citizen, died in Mexico, a State Department official said in a statement. We’re sending our condolences to the family during this difficult time. The Department of State’s top priority is to ensure the safety and welfare of U.S. citizens abroad. In addition to closely monitoring the local authorities’ investigation into the cause of death, we are assisting the family with all consular matters.”
According to reports in the local media, Sativa’s partner is under arrest in connection with the incident, but attempts to reach the Mexican authorities for comment on the investigation have been unsuccessful. As a result, the authorities won’t release the alleged suspect’s name at this time. We were unable to contact the boyfriend’s mother and other family members as of publication.
Several Twitter accounts linked to Cancun law enforcement posted blurred pictures of the suspect wearing what appears to be a hotel bathrobe on Monday, claiming he had been arrested for femicide. In response to news of the arrest, a State Department official says in an email that “We are monitoring the investigation closely.” However, we cannot comment further due to privacy concerns.
Jayme explains that her aunt went to Mexico as the family’s advocate since she was unable to handle the process herself. There, Mexican authorities shared a photo of Sativa’s body with her aunt. Jayme says that her aunt has seen the pictures, and she says it looks as if she was beaten to death.
Main Reason Behind Death
It seems that Sativa’s relationship with her boyfriend is the trouble, according to Jayme and Mykayla. “He was very emotionally abusive,” they said. “He checked her phone; we couldn’t text her because it went to her computer, and he would check that,” Jayme said.
According to public records, the alleged suspect was previously arrested in 2012 for assault in the fourth degree. “He would drink so much that Sativa described it as a different personality. “She would call him ‘Beast’,” Mykayla explains.
At the moment, Sativa’s family is still reeling from the news shock.
“She was the best person I’ve ever known. Kind, generous, outgoing, and bubbly. “She has never met someone who could speak ill of her,” Mykayla told. And she comments, “I don’t know what I’d be without her. It’s like being lost.”
