LightYear, the Toy-Story spinoff is almost around the corner! Toy Story was one of the very first projects of Pixar which blew off due to the use of CGI. Since then there have been a lot of iterations and the upcoming spin-off is highly anticipated! Although the project was confirmed quite some time ago it’s still taking a long time for its release. So, now the question arises will LightYear premiere in 2022?
Well, yes it most definitely will! As the name suggests the movie will revolve around one of the most famous characters Buzz Lightyear. It will go into detail about the character most likely we’ll also get to know about his origin. Some are speculating if other characters from the Toy Story franchise will make the final cut. You’ll read about it below in the article!
The twist in the story is that the upcoming movie will not be about the same character who happened to be Andy’s best friend. Why? Because it will revolve around the story of the astronaut who was the inspiration behind Buzz. The phenomenal Chris Evan has given the character his voice. This casting choice has done wonders for the pre-production fame of the project!
Angus Maclane is the man behind the idea of the movie. In an interview, he revealed that the story of this movie is very close to his heart and he had this idea since the day he started working at Pixar. Being a science fiction lover himself, Angus has paid attention to every detail of the movie. And according to him, it worked out just the way he expected it to. Finally, his idea got approved in late 2020 but due to the Covid situation, the project had to suffer. But not anymore!
Lightyear is set to release on 17th June 2022. The writing for the movie began almost a year ago. Pixar had chosen its finest teams of writers for this one. Moreover, the upcoming movie will also mark the 22nd movie of Pixar. Which is a huge achievement.
Although the movie comes under the genre of CGI, by the looks of the poster and the very little footage that we have now, the movie is giving a very realistic vibe. Mainly because the studio wanted the movie to be like this. MacLane even got a whole model of a spaceship built. From where onwards the whole idea of the movie got developed.
MacLane’s first choice for Buzz has always been Chris Evans. In fact, he was the first confirmed voice actor for the movie. Evans is quite excited about this project in fact he revealed in an interview that he had to stop himself from speaking too much about it. As the movie is scheduled in June expect Chris Evans to be an integral part of press releases in the new future. Tim Allen who has previously voiced the character of Buzz was not the final choice this time. Other characters and their voice actors for LightYear include:
- Keke Palmer as Izzy
- Dale Soules as Steel
- Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Commander Burnside
- Efren Ramirez as Diaz
- Mary Mcdonald Lewis in an unconfirmed role
- James Brolin in an unconfirmed role
- Uzo Aduba as Hawthorne
- Peter Sohn as Sox
- Taika Waititi as Morrison
Galyn Susman has been linked with the Toy Story projects since the very beginning. And he has also produced LightYear! Many are shocked that Disney is making a project on a solo character but the truth is that this is not the first time! In fact in the past as well Disney has produced multiple video games and even short series on the character of astronauts. However, it seems unlikely that there will be a connection between the previous projects and the upcoming movie.
To clear the air Lightyear is not a prequel to the Toy Story franchise! The synopsis for the movie that we have for now is “The origin story of action figure Buzz Lightyear and his adventures to infinity and beyond.”
The audience still doesn’t know much about the plot details. Most probably because Pixar still wants to maintain the hype for the movie. And as there is still plenty of time left until its release, expect the plot details to be just around the corner.
The official trailer for Lightyear is now available for streaming. Some fans were keen enough to notice that there was a Robot Cat in the trailer as well. MacLane has not spoken up about the character details of Sox. However, he has confirmed that Sox will play a prominent role in LightYear.
