The popular British television series, Unforgotten will be returning to our screens for a Unforgotten season 5 very soon. Following the ending of season 4 and the unexpected death of Nicola walker’s character, DCI Cassie Stewart, fans were left absolutely heart broken and full of tears. Cassie was one of the leading characters of the series and her death has made fans speculate how the storyline will continue without her. Many doubted that this might be the unfortunate end to the highly acclaimed investigative series.
Unforgotten Season 5 Release Date
ITV has confirmed the fifth installment of the hit series. In an interview with RadioTimes, Bhaskar disclosed that the filming for the fifth season had begun in March 2022. There has been no announcement regarding the official date for season 5’s release. Based on the information that we have, it is expected that Unforgotten season 5 will hit our screens before the end of 2022.
Unforgotten Season 5 Cast
Chris Lang, who is the writer for Unforgotten revealed who will be replacing Nicola’s character in the fifth season. It was initially speculated that one of the regulars of the series would be promoted and would take up the main role however ITV has revealed that they will be bringing in a new face to Unforgotten in season 5. Sinéad Keenan will be seen as DCI Jessica James and will be taking the reins in the upcoming season of Unforgotten. Keenan is known for her roles in Show-trial and Little Blue Boy and is a BAFTA nominated actress.
In an interview with the press, Keenan talked about how she has long been an admirer of Chris Lang’s work.
“I’m very much looking forward to working with the extraordinary cast led by the brilliant and incredibly lovely Sanjeev Bhaskar. And I’m hoping that if I play my cards right I might even get to take a peek in Sunny’s backpack!”
The team is looking forward to working with Sinead and fans are eager to see what the new addition will bring to the show.
Similar to the previous seasons, the series will be starring actor Sanjeev Bhaskar in the leading role of DI Sunny Khan. Sinead Keenan will be the new DCI and hence Sunny Khan’s new boss. Peter Egan and Pippa Nixon will be reprising their roles as Martin Huges and DC Karen Willets respectively. Lewis Reeves, Jordan Long, Carolina Main and Alastair MacKenzie will also be returning for the fifth installment to the acclaimed crime drama series.
Alongside the main cast, there will also be multiple guest stars on the show. Martina Laird (Summerland, The Bay) as Bele, Rhys Yates (The Outlaws, Silent Witness) as Jay, Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones, Derry Girls) as Tony and Max Rinehart (Jekyll and Hyde, Miss You Already) as Karol will be seen over the course of the fifth season. Veteran actress Hayley Mills will play Tony’s wife, Emma.
Unforgotten Season 5 Plot
ITV has revealed the basic plot of the upcoming season. Bhasker, while in an interview with RadioTimes, opened up about how there is not a significant time shift between season 4 and 5.
“The story will pick up not long after the end of the last story,” he said. “So there is a connection to that story.”
According to ITV, season 5 will begin with the detectives discovering the remains of a body found in a building in Hammersmith, London. DI Khan and DCI James will be working together on this 100 year old murder investigation. The series will revolve around Jessica settling into her new job and trying to prove herself as a worthy replacement for Cassie. Will her new colleagues accept her as their new boss, following the tragic death of Cassie? Will the ghost of Cassie haunt Jessica and how will she cope with all the added pressure? Fans will have to tune in to find out more about this once season 5 becomes available.
While Cassie’ character has been removed from the series, ITV claims that viewers may still get to see more about Cassie’s family and her father’s struggles with dementia. Viewers will also get to see more of Sunny’s girlfriend Sal (Michelle Bonnard), whom he proposed to in the finale of season 4.
Unforgotten Season 5 trailer
As the filming of the fifth season only began a couple of months ago, no official trailer for season 5 has been released. The series is expected to hit the screens in the final quarter of 2022 hence, we expect the trailer to be available a month before the series hits the screens.
