Noragami is a television series that revolves around a minor god who is seeking to gain widespread worship. For the same, he teams up with a human girl to make his way to fame and recognition. He is expecting at least one shrine dedicated to him. The show was a huge hit and has an IMDB rating of 7.9. The series aired between 2014 and 2016. The series belongs to the genre of animation, action, adventure, comedy, and fantasy. Bones is the production company involved in it. After a gap of so many years, there have been rumors making rounds about Noragami Season 3, and the fans are wondering if the series will return for a third season or not.
Featuring prominent actors and actresses like Hiroshi Kamiya, Maaya Uchida, Yuki Kaji, Jason Liebrecht, Micah Solusod, Bryn Apprill, and Aki Toyosaki, Noragami was destined to be a huge hit. However, still, there was no news about Noragami Season 3 after the second season of the show ended.
Noragami Season 3 Is Not Happening
It is important to address the rumors. Even though there are rumors making rounds about the show’s renewal for the third season, you need to know that these are baseless rumors. The rumor started with a tweet, and there is no truth about the same. According to the official announcement, Noragami Season 3 is not happening. Therefore, you should not keep any hope regarding the show’s renewal after such a long gap. Let’s be honest; six years have already passed since the airing of the last episode of the show.
Why Is Noragami Season 3 Canceled?
The show used the source material of the manga that goes by the same name and is written and illustrated by Adachitoka. To date, there are 24 volumes of the series. The last volume was published last year on October 15th. It is believed that Volume 25 will be released this year. The first two seasons of the show have covered four volumes each and eight volumes in total. Therefore, there is enough source material for the show, but still, Noragami Season 3 was canceled.
Therefore, it can be concluded that the source material was never a problem for the series, and it all comes down to the numbers of sales and profitability of the show. According to reports, the first season of Noragami sold 5000 Blu-Rays per volume, and this reduced to 2000 copies per volume for the second season. These numbers appear pretty insignificant in comparison to other anime series like Demon Slayer and Overlord. However, this again is not a major problem considering the fact that users now prefer to stream a show instead of buying expensive Blue-Ray copies.
Now, let us throw some light on the sales of the manga. Volume 21 of the manga sold 120,000 copies; this number was reduced to 1,00,000 copies for Volume 22. Going forward, Volume 23 sold 55,000 copies and Volume 24, which is the latest volume, only managed to sell 45,000 copies. There was a huge decline in the number of copies that the manga managed to sell. This continuous drop in manga sales over the years indicated that the profit was reduced for the series. The popularity of the manga copies will, of course, have an impact on the popularity of the anime series too. This perhaps is the reason why the third season was dropped.
Even though there is a demand for Noragami Season 3, the chances of a renewal of a show are extremely slim. However, it will be interesting if the series gets a renewal due to the demand of its fans.
