Don’t Worry Darling; the upcoming film brings famous singer-songwriter Harry Styles back to his acting career. The movie is expected to hit the big screen on 23rd September 2022. The actor joined the project soon after Shia LaBeouf left the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Olivia Wilde’s latest psychological thriller is much different from her debut movie, BookSmart. Booksmart was a much more light-hearted comedy movie. The current movie has a 1950s small-town vibe to it.

The production, which once came to a halt due to the covid-19 pandemic, has now restarted, and the movie is now ready to head to theaters. The movie is ready to release in the early fall, according to Director Olivia Wilde.

The release of the much-anticipated movie has been confirmed by Olivia Wilde. After a long wait, the movie is finally set to release in theaters on 23rd September 2022, almost 4 months from today. The movie and its production had come to a great halt once one of the cast members had tested positive for COVID-19.

Effectively the work on set was stopped, which greatly pushed the release to a much later date. Immediately, much of the main cast, including Florence Pugh, Chris Pine, and Harry Styles, were put under quarantine. The recording had stopped, ensuring isolation of all those present on set who were potentially exposed to the virus. During COVID times, we could see many movies go through similar procedures, such as the delay of the release of the new James Bond movie, No Time to Die.

A glorious cast has been brought together by Olivia Wilde to bring this enticing and creative story to life. Pugh will play the role of Alice Chambers. Pugh is an award-winning actress best known for her roles in Black Widow and Little Women.

Paired alongside Pugh is Harry Styles, playing the role of Alice’s husband, Jack Chambers. Styles is an award-winning singer-songwriter by profession but has recently had a few stellar movies to his name as well. He has played vital roles in Dunkirk and The Eternals.

Initially, Shia LaBeouf was cast for the role of Jack Chambers; however, the actor dropped out of the project due to the filming schedule clashing with his other projects. Chris Pine will portray the role of Frank. Pine is an immensely talented actor with multiple awards to his name.

The audience will get to see Olivia Wilde (the director herself) as Mary, Gemma Chan as Shelley, Kiki Layne as Margaret, and Nick Kroll as Bill. Further joining the cast is Kate Berlant, Sydney Chandler, Asif Ali, Douglas Smith, Timothy Simons, and many more.

The storyline of “Don’t Worry Darling” revolves around the lives of husband and wife, Jack and Alice. The young couple move into a company-controlled town called Victory, powered and funded by the Victory Project. This town consists of all those men working on the project, providing their families with houses and clubs to associate with, creating an eerily picture-perfect lifestyle for all.

The women are portrayed in a patriarchy-ridden lifestyle of the 50s. They are all housewives and are instructed to take pride in their feminine duties solely to serve the men. Alice, a discontented housewife, is shown slowly adapting and trying to understand the slightly unusual mannerisms of this community.

All seems to be well till sinister things start to occur, tilting the utopic and idealistic lifestyle that the residents have been brought into. Alice then proceeds to try and figure out what is the true image of this town. The ones in power are trying to hide a sinister truth, and Alice is adamant about finding out what it is.

In an interview with Vogue, Wilde described the theme of the movie as, “What are you willing to sacrifice in order to do what’s right? If you really think about it, are you willing to blow up the system that serves you?”

Interestingly, Gloria Steinem revealed that the inspiration for the movie was a conversation she was having with Wilde regarding Trump’s election. Gloria had told Wilde not to pay her taxes as a means of retaliating against the system. A confused Wilde replied,

“What?’ I own property. I have kids. I don’t think I can do that”.

Steinem went on to explain that this was the reason the system remained unchanged. People are not willing to stand up against the system that benefits them, regardless of whether it is ethically correct or not.

The first trailer for the Florence Pugh starrer was released on 2nd May and has over 2 million views. It gives us an insight into the setting of the movie. Set in the 1950s, the trailer starts off portraying a surreal and stylish suburban lifestyle. However, we see things soon turn tenser as Alice discovers glitches within the “matrix” of this new town that the happy couple had recently moved into.

The trailer provides everything from glamour to suspense to intimacy for its audiences. Even though the hype regarding the upcoming Olivia Wilde movie was already high, this trailer has increased it by multiple folds.
