Get ready to watch The Undeclared War on Channel 4 in the UK and NBC Universal streaming service Peacock in the US.

The six-part thriller series has been directed and co-written by the famous Peter Kominsky, who is not new to creating amazing series. As his track record of winning seven BAFTAs is just a symbol of it. Along with Kominsky, Colin Callender and Noëlette Buckley are the executive producers. Robert Jones is the producer, and Playground, Stonehenge Films, and Universal International Studios have co-produced the series, which will cover a new era of war.

If you have watched the emergency clip that Channel 4 has shared or are in the mood for a thriller seat that will keep you on the edge of your seats, then The Undeclared War is perfect. And here is everything about it.

The Undeclared War Cast

The cast for the Channel 4 series is spectacular. It features Simon Pegg playing the role of GCHQ’s Head of Operations, Danny Patrick. He is famous for his roles in Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, and more. Nevertheless, The Undeclared War will be another great addition to the English actor’s acting career.

Next, the star-studded cast also includes Mark Rylance as John Yeabsley. The Oscar-winning actor will be playing a retired Cold War veteran who will become a part of the GCHQ to fight the new cyber threat. Another important part of the GCHQ and the series, will be David Neal, the Head of facility, played by The Crown actor Alex Jennings.

Additionally, Adrian Lester will be playing the role of the UK’s first Black Conservative Prime Minister, Andrew Makinde. And from what we’ve seen in the marketing campaign, he’s the perfect person for this role.

From the Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we have Maisie Richardson-Sellers playing Kathy Freeman from the NSA, who has come to the GCHQ on an attachment. She is an American cyber-analyst, and what is her role in this cyber war will be interesting to watch.

Finally, we have a newcomer Hannah Khalique-Brown as Saara Parvan, a young and bright student eager to learn in GCHQ’s Malware Department. Joining these amazing actors will be a few more who are not new to the camera. It includes Edward Holcroft, German Segal, Tinatin Dalakishvili, Hattie Morahan, Ed Stoppard, and Kerry Godliman.

Plot

The cybercrime series will be like no other tv show you’ve ever watched as it explores a post-pandemic era that takes place in 2024. It shows NSA-style spy agency GCHQ in the UK, and it is a top-notch analyst as they work hard to avoid a cyber-attack on the country’s latest electoral system. Because let’s face it, in this world of technology, anything’s possible when it comes to cybercrime, and attacking a country’s electoral system via cyber is just the beginning of a war.

While speaking about the what The Undeclared War is all about, Peter Kosminsky said:

“The Series is based deep within the least-known arm of the UK’s intelligence infrastructure, GCHQ. The story we’re now able to tell casts an extraordinary, revelatory light on the hot, undeclared war taking place right now in the world’s newest and most invisible domain of conflict — cyber.”

And to make this all happen, Kosminsky has spent three years with this team thoroughly researching the cybersecurity industry in the UK and USA. As he plans to do justice to the mini-series and give viewers an idea of what a cyber war would look like.

Trailer

While an official trailer still has to be released for the new crime thriller, the campaign for its success has already begun. On Friday, June 10, 2022, Channel 4 released a 100-second stunt film on its social media accounts and YouTube inspired by Orson Welles’ The War of the Worlds. Furthermore, the teaser gives a glimpse of what to expect in the six-part series as viewers see Adrian Lester and Simon Pegg take on their roles as Prime Minister Rt Hon Andrew Makinde and Daniel Patrick, respectively. The duo came together for an emergency government briefing to share the news with the citizens of the United Kingdom about an imminent cyber threat that had hit the country. They share a few details of the cyber attack as well as the effects it can have. And while discussing all these details, the President assures everyone they will be taken care of. After all, the next war between countries will probably involve the huge cyber community we have created over the years, and things will get ugly. If any country thinks they are safe from this terror, they are surely wrong because the internet has too much information about everyone and everything.

More

In addition, Channel 4 is all in for The Undeclared War’s marketing campaign as on Saturday, June 11, they have shared a 30-second radio advert. In this advert, Prime Minister Rt Hon Andrew Makinde shares with the public what new details the government has learned while trying to assure them their safety is in safe hands. However, this transmission is cut short, showing that things are not in control, and the President’s words of assurance don’t have a lot of meaning during this time of terror.

You can check out the teaser on YouTube. Don’t forget to follow Channel 4 on one of their social media handles because they will be updating more and more details about The Undeclared War, a limited series that predicts the future.
