In the lead, we have Jeremy Renner playing Mike McLusky, the current Mayor of Kingstown. He rose to rank after the death of his brother, Mitch, in the first episode. Renner is a commendable actor, having appeared in numerous movies, including Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Although, his major recognition comes from his role as Clint Barton/ Hawkeye in the MCU Franchise. Jeremy’s remarkable acting in The Hurt Locker (2008) and The Town(2010) landed him two Academy Award nominations as well.
Dianne Wiest returns as Miriam McLusky
Dianne Wiest returns as Miriam McLusky, the matriarch of the McLusky brothers. Miriam is a college professor who teaches at the female prison voluntarily. Wiest is a veteran actor, having appeared in numerous movies such as Hannah and her Sisters and Bullets of Broadway. She is the receiver of numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, and two PrimeTime Emmy Awards.
Taylor Handley returns as Kyle McLusky
Taylor Handley returns as Kyle McLusky, a Kingstown police detective and the youngest McLusky brother. Kyle is often forced to blur the lines in order to assist his brothers with their questionable decisions. Moreover, we have Bamtefa playing Deverin Washington, Derek Webster playing Stevie, Hamish Allan-Heasley playing Robert, and Aidan Gillen playing Milo Sunter.
Furthermore, the team had also opened up casting calls for Mayor of Kingston Season 2. This means we can also expect some new additions in the upcoming season.
Mayor of Kingstown Season 2 Release Date
On 1st February 2022, Paramount+ confirmed the status of Mayor of Kingstown Season 2. This removes any doubt that the fans may have had regarding the status of the upcoming season. As per reports from Production Weekly, the second installment is well into filming and should hopefully release soon.
Provided that filming for the series is well underway, the Mayor of Kingstown season 2 may potentially release towards the end of 2022. However, that is still under debate because the exact release date depends on Paramount+’s schedule. A show as well-received as this one requires a properly thought-through release date in order to ensure maximum viewership.
Regardless of when the creators decide to release the show, all that truly matters is the show brings back the same action and drama that the first season had.
Mayor of Kingstown Season 2 Storyline
With still months left to its release, the team has been tightlipped regarding the season 2 synopsis. The season 1 finale had its viewers at the edge of their seats with the riot that broke out at the prison. The riot soon got out of control and leading to a fierce gun showdown. This also led to the death of P-Dog, the riot’s ringleader. Based on this, we can predict a potential season 2 storyline.
As the finale episode ended, so did the riot. However, we did not get to see much of the aftermath of the riot. As we move into season 2, we hope to see how the main characters are affected following the riot. Although the McLusky brothers managed to survive the riot, they were still traumatized by its events. Kyle suffers a panic attack sown in the prison’s sewers, and Iris almost gets attacked by a bear.
It will be interesting to see how our protagonist helps his loved ones cope with the aftermath. Further development in Mike and Iris’s broken relationship may occur as well. Mike dealing with his new title as the Mayor of Kingstown and the PTSD from the riot could be a major plotline in season 2.
Throughout the first season, we saw the long-troubled relationship between Mike and Milo. However, so much more regarding their history still remains untold. Season 2 may further develop on this. Keeping in mind that Milo has had a successful jailbreak, he could potentially cause more trouble. The two brothers may face off again in season 2, which may reveal more of their past.
There is no trailer for Mayor of Kingstown Season 2 released as of yet. This is because the upcoming installment is still many months away. Further, the filming for the new season is still going on. With this in mind, it is not surprising that the creators have not dropped a trailer yet.
If the show is to have a late winter or early spring release, then a trailer could possibly drop a month prior to the release. Till then, the season 1 trailer is available on YouTube for fans to rewatch.
