Android 13 for Nothing Phone 1 delayed to 2023

Carl Pie, Nothing founder, and CEO, recently confirmed that Nothing Phone 1 would receive the Android 13 beta update by the end of 2022. The founder confirmed it in a tweet. Therefore, the Nothing Phone 1 users won’t be able to lay their hands on the latest Android version this year. Why this move? According to Pie, the company decided not to rush the Android 13 beta update because it would spoil the user experience of the smartphone users. After the launch of Nothing Phone 1, the makers are constantly monitoring the massive amount of feedback it receives. Furthermore, the makers have already rolled out updates to not only add new features to the smartphone but also to improve the battery life and camera quality too.

The makers of Nothing Phone 1 have confirmed that they are working daily to improve the smartphone. However, keeping in mind the importance of an excellent user experience, they have decided not to rush with the update. The same decision is applicable for the Nothing OS that is based on Android 13. Are you now wondering what the current plan is? Well, it is to ship a beta version by the end of 2022. The full release of the same will be available to the users in early 2023.

Also, in reply to the tweet, Pie said that they are working on creating some interesting software experiences for its users. However, he did not reveal anything about the exact customization that they were working on. The speculation is that it might have a link with its unique Glyph Interface.

According to Pei, their product goes beyond the specs, features, and version numbers. This was an indirect answer to the mass that they won’t receive an update this year. Nothing OS powers the Phone 1, which is a proprietary operating system based on Android. At the current moment, the smartphone runs on Android version 12. 

Currently, the user experience of the smartphone is good as it is extremely clean. The smartphone is free of unwanted apps and excess bloat. As a refreshing change, the only first-party apps that the smartphone supports are a camera and recorder. Apart from it, the smartphone supports Google apps and services.

Recently, the price of Nothing Phone 1 underwent a hike in India owing to the fluctuating currency exchange rates along with an increase in the component cost of the smartphone. It is available in two colors: white and black. It supports the following three variants: 8GB/128GbB, 8GB/256GB and 12GB/256GB. Thankfully, even after the price hike, the smartphone is still pretty affordable.

To sum it up, Nothing Phone 1 will not receive the Android 13 update in 2022. However, the update will be available next year. The reason for this delay is that the makers do not want to compromise the user experience. This year, the makers of the smartphone will focus on upgrading the software to match with Nothing’s hardware.
