Squid Game Season 2 Will Have Release Date in 2024: Netflix

Squid Game, the much-anticipated survival horror drama, is returning to grace our screens. Read the article to learn everything about Squid Game Season 2.

When Will Season Two of Squid Game Be Released?

Netflix has officially announced that Squid Game Season 2 will launch anytime in 2024. Hwang Dong-Hyuk, the mastermind behind Squid Game, initially confirmed the second season in June 2022.

Now, the streamer has released a statement highlighting the arrival of the next season:

“Looking ahead, despite last year’s strikes pushing back the launch of some titles, we have a big, bold slate for 2024. Audiences will be able to choose from hit returning dramas like The Diplomat S2, Bridgerton S3, Squid Game S2 and Empress S2; unscripted series like Tour de France: Unchained S2, Love is Blind S6, F1: Drive to Survive S6 and Full Swing S2; and brand new shows like 3 Body Problem, Griselda, The Gentlemen, Eric, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Cien Años de Soledad, from Colombia based on the novel by Gabriel García Márquez and Senna from Brazil.”

As anticipation mounts, the team entices fans with a full teaser trailer, offering a glimpse into what lies ahead. Watch the video here:

The Second Season’s Cast

Along with the launch year, Netflix recently released a video announcing the upcoming season’s cast. Although many cast members died in the first season, their roles can be revisited through flashback sequences. Here’s who will be returning:

First Look Photos

The first look photos show Gi-hun, the Front Man, the Recruiter, and a new character that Park Gyu-young will play. Check them out here:

In this image, Gi-hun stands behind one of the masked guards. You can also notice his original hair color. This could mean he is dreaming or experiencing a flashback, or perhaps he dyed his once-red hair back to its original black hue.

Another image shows an encounter between Gong Yoo (Recruiter) and Gi-hun. But this time, the meeting looks more serious. With the gun in his hands, the Recruiter has leverage. Now, who knows what deal they’re making?

The third image shows The Front Man taking his mask off. Given his confirmed appearance in Season 2, could this mean the team will reveal more about his background?

The last image welcomes South Korean superstar Park Gyu-young, holding the calling card.

What Will Happen in Squid Game Season 2?

In Season 2, we will see Seong Gi-hun‘s (Lee Jung-jae) aftermath of ditching the plane to the United States to stay in South Korea to finish what the Recruiter had started.

In Season 1, Squid Games welcomed a group of contestants to a deadly game, giving them a chance to receive a 45.6 billion cash prize if they win. The final contestant, Gi-hun, was awarded the promised prize. But this was not the end; after the death of the game’s creator, the game was still going on with the new recruits.

Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said, “I’ve seen many reactions from people about the show, but I don’t want to make season two a response to those reactions. The philosophies I put in season one all naturally extend to season two. Instead of trying to meet the expectations of viewers, I just thought about the last moment when Gi-hun turned away from boarding the plane, and I thought about what he will do next.”

He continued, “There will naturally be a flow of events that will lead to the end of the season. I can’t share any details yet, but you know that Seong Gi-hun has become a totally new person by the end of season one, so season two is going to be about what that new Gi-hun is going to do and how things will unfold with this new kind of character.”

More About the Upcoming Season

Netflix released a video offering a sneak peek at the upcoming seasons and movies. The footage shows Gi-hun in a striking new hair color. He is seen engaged in a tense phone conversation where the caller warns him, ‘You’ll regret your decision.’ To which Gi-hun, far from faltering, retorts, ‘I will find you. No matter what it takes.’ Check out the clip in this video:

So, prepare yourself for the subsequent round of chaos of Squid Game. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos believes the next season will ‘blow your minds.’ He stated, “We are really excited about director Hwang’s ability for storytelling, more dynamic sets, and more mind-blowing storylines that are going to thrill the entire world.
