Deadline reported that the show’s initial plan was to be 10 episodes long. But now, it has been cut down to a shorter season. An HBO spokesperson explained that the decrease in the number of episodes was story-driven.
Ryan Condal, the executive producer-showrunner, and George R.R. Martin thoroughly followed the book Martin’s Fire & Blood and broke down the scenes into respective seasons. The House of the Dragon team plans to divide the story to give their audience almost three to four seasons.
Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming, said in a statement. “We are beyond proud of what the entire House of the Dragon team has accomplished with season one.”
The Second Season’s Plot and First Season’s Ending Explained
To understand how the next season will proceed, it is essential to look back at what happened in the finale of season 1. The last episode, titled ‘The Black Queen,’ pulled the curtains with an unexpected death. It showed the determination of revenge in Rhaenyra’s eyes for Lucerys Velaryon’s death. The death of Lucery brought Rhaenyra to her knees. However, with her eyes filled with tears, the last scene was not a call for help; instead, it rang the bells for war! So brace yourselves for the battle of the year, as peace will be off the table for this season, and now power will determine the fate of the houses.
