He further stated, “His football legacy with us is highlighted by the thrilling 1998 season, return to the postseason, and upset playoff win at Dallas.” In addition to this, Michael Bidwell also recognized and praised Tobin’s role in drafting notable players, including Jake Plummer and Pat Tillman.
Vince Tobin helped the Cardinals win in 1998. It was the Cardinals’ first playoff victory after 1947. The team won in the opening round against the Dallas Cowboys but lost in the Divisional game against the Minnesota Vikings.

A Look At Vince Tobin’s Career
Born September 29, 1943, in Burlington Junction, Missouri, Vince Tobin was a beloved coach who inspired many.Â
He was initially a defensive back at the University of Missouri and later became a graduate coaching assistant there. Then from 1971 to 1976, he became the defensive coordinator for the same team. Tobin then tried his luck at the Canadian Football League and became the defensive coordinator for BC Lions. He worked with the team from 1977 to 1982.
From 1983 to 1985, he became a part of the USFL and the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars. Vince Tobin’s next career move involved the NFL, as he became an essential part of the Chicago Bears. He served as the defensive coordinator for the team from 1986 to 1992.Â
Then, the late coach worked as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts. He worked for the years 1994 and 1995. Tobin then became a part of the Arizona Cardinals. He became the head coach of the team in 1996. Vince Tobin’s time with the Arizona Cardinals ended in 2000. Dave McGinnis replaced him. The 79-year-old had a 28-43 record with the Cardinals for the four-and-a-half seasons he worked with them as a head coach.
