The Idea of You will debut at South by Southwest as the closing night film on March 16, 2024. It will also premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on May 2, 2024. According to Collider, the theatrical release of the movie seems unlikely.

What Is the Upcoming Film About?
The Idea of You plot revolves around Solene Marchand, a 40-year-old mother, portrayed by Hathaway, who plans to take her teenage daughter, Izzy (Ella Rubin), on a Coachella trip. This happens after her husband, Reid Scott, ends things with her. Things start to get interesting when she encounters 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Galitzine), the lead of the hottest boy band, August Moon. But as a single, working mother, will she be able to continue this sparking romance with the singer? Will she compromise her duties as a mother to balance her career?

Prime Video’s trailer for The Idea of You opens by showing Solene Marchand, who starts a new chapter of her life after her divorce. This chapter is much more exciting than her usual working-mother routine.
She gets to live her teenage years once again after her spark ignites with Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of the hottest boy band. With paparazzi chasing their love story, Solene has just one question: “What about what people will say?” To which Galitzine responds, “I don’t care what they say.”
Is the book The Idea of You about Harry Styles?
Many speculate that the original story revolves around Harry Styles’s affair with Deborah Kalb and have termed it Harry Style fan fiction. Robinne Lee revealed in 2017 how she started writing the book.
“A few years ago, my husband was away on business, and I was up late surfing music videos on YouTube when I came across the face of a boy I’d never seen in a band I’d never paid attention to, and it was so aesthetically perfect it took me by surprise. It was like art. I spent a good hour or so Googling and trying to figure out who this kid was, and in doing so, I discovered that he often dated older women, and so the seed was planted,” she said.
Lee confirmed in a 2020 Vogue interview that the book is inspired by the idea of Harry Styles, not a direct portrayal of him. Not only that, but the book also had some snippets of her relationship with her husband and Eddie Redmayne.
“This was never supposed to be a book about Harry Styles. It was supposed to be a story about a woman approaching 40 and reclaiming her sexuality and rediscovering herself, just at the point that society traditionally writes women off as desirable and viable and whole.”
