The death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020 was a huge shock for all of us. However, it presented Marvel Studios with a special kind of difficulty. The problem can be summed up with one question who is the new black panther/ the makers of the movie had two choices. The first one was to recast his role and, secondly, pay him the much-deserved tribute. Thankfully, Ryan Coogler decided to opt for the latter choice. He was left with the task not only of telling the audience about the death of T’Challa but further of deciding who would inherit the title. If you haven’t watched the movie yet, you might be wondering about the new black panther. Do not worry; we will answer that question for you.
Who is New Black Panther?
The answer to the question who is new black panther is Shuri. Do you remember her? Well, she is the genius sister of T’Challa. Letitia Wright plays the role of Shuri. Therefore, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is about Shuri.
The Reasoning Behind The New Black Panther
Now that we know that Shuri is the new black panther. Let us try to understand why. Firstly. She belongs to the royal lineage. Further, she has scientific gifts. In the movie, of course, we saw many strong women like Queen Ramonda, Nakia, and Okoye. However, from the very beginning of the movie Wakanda Forever, Shuri’s journey was crafted in a way that many fans could see her as the famed protector of Wakanda.
Also, in the previous movie, she received an introduction as a rebellious child who dislikes tradition. Now in Wakanda Forever, we can see her grief as she is unable to avoid the illness that befell her husband. Her inability to prevent his death multiplies her grief. After the death of T’Challa, she throws herself at work.
Simultaneously, her mother keeps nudging her to follow religious rituals. However, as expected, the princess refuses.
Shuri In Comic
Shuri made the first appearance in the comic via flashback. She was introduced as a potential Panther candidate. However, as we have all seen, T’Challa outdoes her. Of course, the plot of the comic and the current movie is vastly different. It could not be helped, considering Boseman’s absence. However, the makers did choose the right path to give the movie a natural feel to the viewers.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has recently hit the theatres. The movie is gaining appreciation because of the reliability and humanity of its character. It is the sequel to the 2018 megahit Black Panther. The primary cast of the original movie, Chadwick Boseman, died in 2020 at the age of 43. Marvel made a wise decision by not recasting Boseman’s role as King T’Challa or Black Panther. Ryan Coogler successfully weaves the death of the character into the narrative of the movie. We can see the African nation mourning the lost leader.
This lefts Ramonda and Shuri as the primary character of the movie. Of course, both the ladies are grieving their loss. Shuri, however, tries to bury her trauma with logic.
The movie has two nominations: Best Original Song- Feature Film and Best Original Score- Sci-Fi Film in the Hollywood Music In Media Awards. It has an IMDB rating of 7.4, which is slightly higher than the original movie. The movie has received a mixed reception. However, it is performing well in the box office collection.
If you haven’t watched the movie yet, you should surely watch it. The movie belongs to the genre of action-adventure, drama, fantasy, sci-fi, and thriller.
